Down in numbers but full of enthusiasm we travelled to Gort on what started out as a day that only rugby playing ducks could appreciate. The closer we got away from the grey lake the more the weather improved and by the time we arrived, we could enjoy some intermittent sunshine, albeit it with liberal applications of deep heat to keep the blood flowing against the biting wind that pervades that stadium.
Both the U10's and U12's competed in extended games of 15mins and 20mins a side respectively. The U12's made hard work of it against a well schooled gort side. The soft conditions under foot didn't suit them, their style of rugby being more akin to that of our cousins in the southern hemisphere, or so their coach told me during a post match video analysis session. In marked contrast Loughrea's honour was upheld bravely by the U10's who put on a display of technically brilliant rucking, freeing up quick ball for our future 100M record breaking sprinters, A special mention must be given to both wingers who held their positions all day, tackled everything that moved and scored a few trys to boot for their efforts.
